Ally McCoist has already told Todd Boehly how Kalidou Koulibaly can have the same impact at Chelsea as Virgil van Dijk has had at Liverpool.
The Napoli defender, who has drawn comparisons to the Liverpool defender in the past, is heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, with his contract at the Italian side set to expire at the end of next season.
The 30-year-old has been offered to the Blues by his agent Fali Ramadani ahead of the summer, according to Area Napoli, as quoted by Sport Witness.
Koulibaly, who has drawn comparisons to Van Dijk in the past, has featured 25 times for Luciano Spalletti’s side in the Serie A this season, steering Gli Azzurri towards a title charge.
McCoist believes that the Senegal international could have a similar impact if he were to arrive in the Premier League.
Speaking on talkSPORT Breakfast in September 2020, the former Rangers striker explained how the Napoli centre-half could follow in Van Dijk’s footsteps.
McCoist said: “The key signing for Liverpool was Van Dijk, and I think is so important for a number of top clubs.”
“The name I keep going back to is the lad Koulibaly at Napoli, who has impressed for a long, long time now,” he added.
“I think he is the one target a lot of top Premier League clubs would and should be looking at.”
Koulibaly’s impressive displays have seen Napoli relish the second-best defensive record in the league behind only AC Milan, who have a game in hand.
Area Napoli outline that Koulibaly’s agent has chosen Thomas Tuchel’sTuchel’s side due to the club’s likelihood to guarantee a high wage.
Following Todd’s successful takeover – subject to approval from the Premier League and the UK Government.
Barcelona are also interested in signing the Napoli centre-half this summer, according to Spanish outlet AS, as Xavi looks to shore up his backline.
