Chelsea football club of England duo, Kalidou Koulibaly and Edouard Mendy were both incredible yesterday for the Teranga Lions of Senegal in their second Group A game of the current 2022 FIFA World Cup tournament against host nation, Qatar at the Al Thumama Stadium in Doha.
Senegal in their opening game against the Louis van Gaal led Netherlands team were solid and clinical with their style of play but were unlucky to have conceded two late goals in the second half courtesy of a defensive blunder coupled with costly mistake from the goalkeeper, Edouard Mendy.
However, they were able to get their campaign back on track in the penultimate group game to boost their hope of progressing to the next round of the competition should they get a win against Ecuador in their last group game.
Senegal won the game impressively with a three goals to one victory courtesy of goals from Boulaye Dia, Famara Diedhiou and Bamba Dieng for Senegal and a consolation from Mohammed Muntari for Qatar.
Kalidou Koulibaly in the game was solid at the heart of the defence line where he used his vast experience coupled with his physical, tactical and technical skills to make some dangerous clearances to deny the host some clear cut chances that could have been converted into goals.
He also exhibited some top notch leadership traits as the team’s captain which got them more bounded together courtesy of a great communication on the pitch of play which was instrumental in the crucial win that got them back to winning ways.
Edouard Mendy on the other side was also clinical with his all-round performance in between the stick where he also made some decisive saves to deny the host the chances of founding the back of the net.
The duo worked perfectly together to make their team’s defence line looked more formidable which therefore gave them a positive momentum going into the final group game.
They will both be hoping to maintain the standard for their team in the next game so as to keep their pursuit going in the competition.
