Anthony Taylor will referee Chelsea’s clash with Leeds United at Elland Road on Wednesday evening, May 11, in the Premier League.
He has already reffed Chelsea on five occasions this season alone, four of which have been in the Premier League and one, most recently, in the FA Cup semi-final against Crystal Palace.
Taylor has brandished 94 yellow cards to Chelsea players throughout his career, whereby two of which have led to dismissals.
With a catalogue of Blues games under his belt, Taylor has built a reputation among the Chelsea fanbase.
His most notable outings have come in the 2020 FA Cup final against Arsenal, against Manchester United in February 2020 and against Tottenham Hotspur in December 2019, among others too.
Taylor awarded Tottenham a free-kick for a foul on Paulo Gazzaniga when Marcos Alonso collided with the Spurs shot-stopper in the penalty area.
Though subject to review by the video assistant referee, his decision was overturned and Chelsea were awarded a penalty which Willian converted.
After an off-field altercation between Michy Batshuayi and Harry Maguire, Taylor deemed the coming together as fair play.
Mateo Kovacic was shown a second yellow card for a challenge Granit Xhaka committed on the Chelsea midfielder.
Naturally, Chelsea fans took to Twitter to give their thoughts on Taylor’s latest appointment with the whistle.
Ryan Burton said: “This season is like scriptwriters of a horror movie for Chelsea fans that are making up as they go along ‘they’re top of the league & beating Juve 4-0, then Chilwell does he ACL, then James does his hamstring, then COVID outbreak + more injuries, then sanctions, then club sale‘.”
Robert Ngaywa said: “No excuses… We had a good referee against Brentford, Arsenal, Man United and we didn’t win. So no more excuses we like complaining a lot without any effort.”
