The Manchester United forward will not feature against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge later today.
Cristiano Ronaldo is the most-talked-about Manchester United player at the moment after his dramatic incident in Wednesday night’s victory over Tottenham Hotspur. The striker, who will not be part of Erik ten Hag’s squad tonight, walked down the tunnel before the full-time whistle after refusing to come on.
Ten Hag confirmed on Friday that the Portugal international would be punished for his actions by not featuring against Chelsea later today. Since the incident in the 2-0 win over Spurs, Ronaldo has since apologised and has posted a good luck message for his team-mates ahead of their trip to Stamford Bridge.
However, that hasn’t stopped the public from using the opportunity to take aim at the Red Devils’ attacker and Paddy Power are the latest. The betting company, primed for their harmless jokes, have mocked the 37-year-old by inserting a bench outside Old Trafford with an amusing plaque.
“In honor of Ronaldo’s second stint at Man United. £480,000 a week to sit on a bench,” it read.
The situation surrounding the striker has been a long-standing issue for the club. After failing to secure a move in the summer, in which Todd Boehly was keen on, Ronaldo hasn’t featured anywhere near as much as he did under Ole Gunnar Solskjæer and Ralf Rangnick.
Ronaldo has only scored two goals in 12 appearances this term after mainly being utilised off the bench since ten Hag’s summer arrival. With his absence certainly a welcome bonus for Graham Potter, the striker’s sister, Katia Averio, has blasted the treatment of her brother in an extraordinary message on her Instagram page.
