Barcelona could finally put a stop to their 3-year wait for the LaLiga title if they can consistently maintain their performance in the league this season.
Barça last won the Spanish Primera Division title in 2019 when the likes of Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez was still at the club, but has since failed to reclaim the title they previously won 8 times in 11 years between 2008/09 and 2018/19.
In Xavi Hernandez’s first season as Barcelona’s coach, he led them to a second place finish and this term, it looks like they have their sights set on snatching the league from defending champions, Real Madrid.
The Catalans currently top the standings with 37 points from 14 games having won 12 times, with their only loss coming in the El Clasico defeat to bitter rivals Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu last month.
One of Barcelona’s star performers Pedri has now revealed that the Blaugrana are “very happy to be leaders in LaLiga going into the World Cup break” as it was their goal.
Pedri also revealed their title ambitions, stating that they “want to win” the LaLiga, but then went on to acknowledge the fact that to maintain their lead at the top of the chart, they “have to be constant”.
There are 24 matches yet to be played, but with a player like Robert Lewandowski in their team, Barcelona can dream of ending their LaLiga drought this campaign.
Barça will return to action in the league on the 31st of December when they welcome Espanyol to the Spotify Camp Nou.
