Swiftly off the back of two 3-0 victories over AC Milan and Wolverhampton Wanderers, Chelsea got their preparations for the Champions League under way in earnest at Cobham ahead of flying to Italy on Monday afternoon. The Blues once again take on their Serie A opponents but this time at the San Siro as Graham Potter and co look to cement their route through to the next round of European competition
As always, Chelsea’s goalkeepers were the first out and getting their session underway with the outfield players in the changing rooms. Edouard Mendy, Kepa Arrizabalaga and Marcus Bettinelli were all in attendance
Notably, as Chelsea’s stars emerged onto the training pitches Thiago Silva was among their number having been rested for the win over Wolves after suffering from a heavy cold. His defensive teammate Wesley Fofana did not join the group after he was injured last week. The Frenchman is set to be out for a number of weeks with a knee strain which forced him off against Milan at Stamford Bridge.
While his comeback continues, N’Golo Kante was also not present for the open portion of Chelsea’s training session. Potter noted ahead of Wolves, that the midfielder was getting closer and more integrated with the team but it looks as though the trip to the San Siro will come too soon.
The one other interesting absentee was Hakim Ziyech. The Moroccan winger replaced Kai Havertz on Saturday afternoon, for a five-minute outing against Wolves but was not involved on Monday morning. Denis Zakaria who did not make the Premier League squad to face the managerless Midlands side was present though.
Chelsea players in training: Kepa Arrizabalaga, Edouard Mendy, Marcus Bettinelli, Reece James, Mason Mount, Marc Cucurella, Mateo Kovacic, Cesar Azpilicueta, Armando Broja, Trevoh Chalobah, Thiago Silva, Ben Chilwell, Christian Pulisic, Kai Havertz, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Raheem Sterling, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Conor Gallagher, Carney Chukwuemeka, Kalidou Koulibaly, Denis Zakaria, Jorginho.
